1714: The Case of the Catalans
1714: The Case of the Catalans is a strategy and negotiation game set in the War of the Spanish Succession. The players represent Great Britain, the Dutch Republic, Austria, the Duchy of Savoy and Portugal, the allies that constituted the Grand Alliance to put a stop to the Bourbons' wish to join the crowns of Paris and Madrid after the death of Charles II of Spain. Maximum profit must be obtained from the Treaty of Utrecht and the subsequent distribution of territories from the Spanish Empire. With the resources and will to fight, the players will mobilise troops and attack the Bourbon forces to achieve their secret goals while they negotiate the Bourbon cession of territories in exchange for peace.
1714: The Case of the Catalans includes 70 cards with the most significant events of the war, decisive historical figures and the treaties and battles of the conflict. The players will negotiate the concessions and occupy the strategic sites before the fall of Barcelona on September 11, 1714. After this, only the remorse for signing the Pact of Genoa will remain.
